Girls Day Out

Trying to soak up the last rays of summer, I spent the afternoon at the beach with my bestie and my black bikini. The wind and surf were so soothing today...Feeling drowsy and sunkissed after a perfect girls day out.

Post Secret

This isn't my post secret. And it's definitely not every day. But yes, the thought crosses my mind, sometimes.

Wear to Work

Work is going well. It's been keeping me from blogging this past week and other artistic pursuits, but I love what I do and my career is starting to blossom. Ultimately, this can only mean one thing....

New suits! I am loving this season's return of fall classics with soft grey hues and urban chic detailing. It's time to go shopping.

Men on bikes

I love a man on a bike. And I have a special place in my heart for older Italian gentlemen in suits on bikes. I have never traveled to Italy without seeing one or two of them and for me it always adds a little extra romance to the experience.

Happy Tour de France, Week 3 - a whole different kind of men on bikes!

Poolside Glamour

It's rare to come across an editorial in which I love so many of the clothes! I guess Grazia just has my number, and apparently that number is poolside summer glamour...

Girls in Glasses

A great pair of glasses is dead sexy. It took me a long time and the help of the good people at Moscot to learn to love my glasses. But the right pair can make you feel so feminine and powerful. I'm a bit partial to girls in glasses.

Black-with-black is totally back.

Vogue US July 2010 says:

I AM WOMAN. Hear me roar. Hear me issue stock-purchase orders from the Wall Street trading floor. I am woman; I am not girl. I do not emulate the pop-burlesque fashion stylings of Ke$ha or Katy Perry. I do not aspire to PASSÉ MORNING-AFTER CHIC, with bird’s-nest hair and shredded leather leggings. No. Of Lana Turner and Barbara Stanwyck — and Lena Horne — I sing.

(Have you felt the smooth, snug tug of fine leather gloves being pulled on? Have you considered the REBELLION, the nonconformity, inherent today in a Marnie Eisenhower knit suit? Have you worn a crinoline lately?)

Reader, if you’re older than fourteen, fashion for fall 2010 offers more WEARABLE OPTIONS than it has in eons. Skirts fall below mid-thigh. Designers are giving us dead-cool-but-still-practical STREETWEAR UNIFORMS for work or school. Black-with-black is totally back.

Thank goodness. I've always been a black-with-black kind of girl.

Summer Tresses

I have long, thick, dark and wavy hair and while it's sometimes the envy of straight-haired friends, for me it's always been a love-hate relationship. On a good hair day, I get a cascade of big silky curls, but on a bad hair day I face a daunting tangled mass. I've learned that a great haircut goes a long way. For summertime, I need lots of long light layers, and I think I may have just found my perfect style for this season....

Uptown Girl

What better way to start the week than feeling fancy, fabulous and madly in love? These photos remind me of courting my handsome husband on the Upper East Side...What a great way to brighten up Monday!

I Want: Little Pink Flats

I'm wanting some little pink flats...like this sassy new pair from Valentino. Because it's warming and time to wear pink. Because I have a longstanding crush on playful chic accessories. Because flirty new shoes put a spring in my step. Because every now and then a girl needs to saunter down the street with satin bows on her toes in the springtime.

Summer Glamor

Last week, while bogged down with stress and the city, I kept wondering why I didn't choose to live somewhere like Miami: hot hot heat, fresh sandy beaches, and a glamorous sunny lifestyle. I mean New York is glamorous. And it's coastal. But there's a reason everyone flees for the Hamptons every summer and I think that reason is that it's damn hard to feel bronzed and beautiful in Manhattan's own special steel and concrete heat. As summer hots up, I find myself longing for the glamor of a city that's designed for heat. Poolside, seaside, loungy, breezy, sailing, tanning, tropical drinking summer....

Girly Couture

I take a passing interest in couture runway shows but, while sculpturally beautiful, they are often too avant garde to be anything I would consider wearing. So I was pleasantly surprised when I came across Alex Perry's Spring 2010 show from earlier this week on Fashionising. They described the entire affair "as glittery as a thousand stars and as glamorous as a champagne glass full of diamonds."

I don't know about all that, but here's what I love about the collection: it's couture for girls. The color palette is pleasingly soft in monochrome and neutrals. The beautiful textures of lace and detailing used in many outfits invoke classic couture. The fits are feminine and flattering, and I adore those sculptural decolletages. For once this is a show that not only do I wish I had been at, I would rush out and buy the clothes.
