Girly Couture

I take a passing interest in couture runway shows but, while sculpturally beautiful, they are often too avant garde to be anything I would consider wearing. So I was pleasantly surprised when I came across Alex Perry's Spring 2010 show from earlier this week on Fashionising. They described the entire affair "as glittery as a thousand stars and as glamorous as a champagne glass full of diamonds."

I don't know about all that, but here's what I love about the collection: it's couture for girls. The color palette is pleasingly soft in monochrome and neutrals. The beautiful textures of lace and detailing used in many outfits invoke classic couture. The fits are feminine and flattering, and I adore those sculptural decolletages. For once this is a show that not only do I wish I had been at, I would rush out and buy the clothes.
